Municipal Elections
November 7th, 2021

Solutions are already in place to help keep voters, election staff, and candidates safe in general elections and by-elections during the pandemic. The Municipality also follows the instructions and practices developed by various government authorities to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and protect all Quebecers. The work is ongoing. Instructions and practices continue to be adjusted as public health guidelines evolve along with the pandemic.

Important dates

  • Nomination period: September 17 to October 1, at 4:30 p.m.

  • Last City Council meeting before the election: October 5th.  Council is not dissolved, but must cease to meet at 4:30 p.m. 30 days before the election, unless an emergency arises. Both the mayor and councilors remain in office until the elected members of the new council are sworn in.

  • Revision of the voters list: October 19-20+21,

  • Voting by mail: October 8 to November 5, at 4:30 p.m.

  • Advance voting: October 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Election Day: November 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voting by mail

Municipal Council has passed a resolution to allow electors who are 70 years of age or older and who are on the voters list of the Municipality to vote by mail by applying to the returning officer’s office. In addition, any voter may apply to vote by mail if he or she:

  • resides in an RPP, a hospital center, a residential and long-term care center (CHSLD), a rehabilitation center or a reception center

  • is unable to move about for health reasons and his or her caregiver if he or she is domiciled at the same address

  • is ordered or recommended by public health authorities to be isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Also, the elector who meets one or the other of the above-mentioned conditions must:

  • Be registered on the list of electors;

  • Have made a verbal or written application for a vote by mail to the office of the returning officer no later than October 27.
